Prof. Satish Annigeri is currently serving as Professor, School of Civil Engineering, KLE Technological University, Hubballi, formerly B.V.B. College of Engineering & Technology. He teaches postgraduate students of Structural Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Roorkee in 1999 working in the field of earthquake engineering and M.E. in Structural Engineering in 1989 from the same University. During his long tenure at B.V.B. College of Engineering & Technology starting in 1985, he has held several teaching and administrative responsibilities including Assistant Professor, Professor, Head of Civil Engineering Department and Dean (Academic Affairs). He held the post of Registrar (Evaluation), Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi from 2016 to 2020. During his tenure he headed the successful efforts to automate the examination system of VTU, including digital valuation, faculty and student management information systems through an in-house team using FOSS platforms. He has successfully guided two Ph.D. candidates and is currently guiding one candidate. He has guided more than 35 M.Tech. dissertations. He has been an active user of FOSS since 1995. He has made efforts to spread awareness and encourage use of FOSS in engineering education through workshops and meet-ups. He is especially keen on encouraging educational institutions to use of FOSS in teaching/learning and IT infrastructure management. He takes keen interest in new developments in the FOSS world and learning and spreading their use amongst his students. He writes regularly on Quora and is an enthusiastic endurance cyclist.

The talk discusses definition of FOSS, the various licenses and discusses with the help of a few examples how FOSS is funded and managed. It explains how source code of FOSS projects are managed and made accessible to the public. It also lists several FOSS available for library management, such as Koha. The FOSS available for document management and knowledge management. In these days of digital information, storing, categorizing and disseminating digital content has gained prominence. The talk will look at software, hardware and IoT solutions pertaining to information management.
